EDUCATION:
Essex County College Physical Therapist's Assistant Program
Physical Therapist Assistant: PTAs are trained to conduct therapeutic exercises, provide therapeutic massage, observe patients and evaluate data on a patient's progress.
Professional Experience: Malia has been with Mile Square Physical Therapy for four of its five years. She started here as an aide while obtaining her PTA license, and once licensed MSPT knew we had to make room for her. She is outgoing and energetic, and always exploring new ways to treat patients and improve their care. Her focus on learning has led her to participate in the following continuing education courses in just the past two years:
Each year, her intentions are to maintain and enhance her knowledge in these areas. She is focused on completing the Maitland courses and eager to develop her skills to accommodate each patient individually with SLAP and ACL repairs. Her focus in the clinic has been on both outpatient orthopedic populations, as well as with pediatric populations. She enjoys working with patients post-operatively and helping them achieve their maximum potential. She also realizes the need for pediatric physical therapy in Hoboken with the ever growing baby boom of the past decade. From early intervention, helping your child achieve their age appropriate milestones, to torticollus, Malia demonstrates her knowledge and patience. Additionally, she is not afraid to challenge our senior population by encouraging them to work hard, and improve in areas such as balance, gait, strength, and pain relief. In her spare time, Malia enjoys playing tennis, basketball and has started to challenge herself in competing in 5k’s this coming fall, all of which help her understand the importance of being able to live an active lifestyle.
